Codecs
Chroma may not contain all codecs you need to play a movie. Here are some plug-in codecs you can use to extend Chroma. Unfortunately, most only works with the latest Mac OS X version.
These are QuickTime components, also known as codec plug-ins; you install them by simply putting the component file in the /Library/QuickTime folder.
This is merely a listing of common QuickTime codec plug-ins and not an endorsement or guarantee that they will work with Chroma. Your proverbial mileage may vary.

Video codec plug-ins

Windows Media Flip4Mac is a QuickTime codec which will allow Chroma to play .asf and .wmv files and WMV3 encoded movies in AVI. |

on2 VP3 There is a QuickTime VP3 codec available from on2 which will allow Chroma to play VP3 encoded movies. |

h.264 / AVC1 Perian is a QuickTime plug-in which will allow Chroma to play many h.264 encoded movies in e.g. AVI or Matroska. |

Xiph Theora Xiph has created a QuickTime codec for Theora, available from Xiph. |

on2 VP7 Unfortunately on2 has not released any VP7 codec for Mac OS X |

Indeo Unfortunately, there are no codecs for Indeo for Mac OS X. The only codecs made were for old Mac OS. |
Audio codec plug-ins

AC-3 There is a QuickTime codec available from Cod3r that will enable Chroma to play movies with AC-3 audio. This codec is also bundled with the latest Perian. There is also an older codec available on Sourceforge. |

Xiph Vorbis Xiph has created a QuickTime codec for Vorbis, available from Xiph. It also handles FLAC and Speex in ogg files. |

Windows Media Audio The Perian codec can decode Windows Media Audio 1 & 2. |
|
mp2 The Perian codec can decode mp2 audio tracks. |
Container format plug-ins

Xiph Ogg (.ogg files) Xiph has created a QuickTime importer plug-in for Ogg files, available from Xiph. The plug-in will allow Chroma to open .ogg files. |

Windows Media (.wmv files) Flip4Mac is a QuickTime plug-in that will add .asf and .wmv capability to Chroma. |

Matroska (.mkv files) Perian is a QuickTime plug-in which will allow Chroma to play Matroska files. |

mpeg2 (.mpeg/.vob files) There is currently no plug-in for mpeg2 files available. To play DVD's, use the Open DVD from Disc or Open DVD from Folder from the File menu. |
